Trout and trunks at Lordamere Lake

Lordamere Lake, below Dalaran / level 25 to 30 / rum, trunks and trout / alone

Lordamere Lake lies under the walls of Dalaran, and the wind comes down to it off the Alterac snow. I fished there for three evenings because a traveller said he'd made more than ten gold an hour at it. He had a fishing skill over 300 and gear for a tournament. I had 225, a coat that wasn't warm enough and a pole I hadn't paid for yet. I made enough for the flight back to Southshore and a hot dinner.

Why it pays

Three things pay here, in this order. First the floating wreckage. At this water it carries the Iron Bound Trunk, and in our loot tables that kind of wreckage gives the trunk on three casts in five and a Rumsey Rum Black Label on one in five. The rum sells for price unknown, and on some realms that's more than anything else on this page. A vendor pays 2c for a trunk, so open it. Our data doesn't list what's inside; the traveller pulled out potions, a green, leather and bolts of silk. Second the Raw Mithril Head Trout. The new Fishing Rack takes two of them, so the trout has buyers who don't cook, and it sells for price unknown. Third the Raw Greater Sagefish from its schools, at price unknown. The lake gives Raw Bristle Whisker Catfish as well, at price unknown today. The hourly sums I was told for it were made when it sold for a good deal more.

What you need

Fishing 225, if the traveller who put the iron-bound water at 225 is right. That means Expert Fishing - The Bass and You from Old Man Heming in Booty Bay for one gold, at level 20 or above. Level 25 at least, because Snapjaw in the water is level 30 and Dalaran's guards are 31 to 34. Lindea Rabonne in Southshore sells lures, Recipe: Mithril Head Trout for 22 silver and Recipe: Bristle Whisker Catfish for 12. The trout needs Cooking 175.

Where

The water north of Dalaran, on the Alterac map. The green dots on the plate show where Lake Frenzy swims, a level 15 creature of the open water, and the red ones are Dalaran's guards and summoners. The Alliance flies to Southshore and the Horde to Tarren Mill.

How

1. Buy lures in Southshore and ride to the lake.
2. Put on a lure and fish open water for trout while you watch the surface.
3. Fish every piece of wreckage you see, then the Greater Sagefish schools.
4. Open the trunks on the spot and keep the rum.
5. Sell the rum, the sagefish and the trout on the auction house. Cook the trout only if the live box says the cooked fish beats the raw one.

What can go wrong

The catfish. Someone worked out a good hourly rate for it from beta prices, and the market has moved a long way since. The bloated fish of the rack page wanted about 300 skill here, so don't come for those at 225.

BASTIAN'S VERDICT Fish the wreckage for the rum and the trunks and sell the trout to the rack makers. For a level 30 with the skill, it's the best water in this chapter.
